1924
Two brothers, Herbert and Norman W. Woolley Sr., immigrated to New Jersey from New York. They wanted to start a coal company, like their father, Nephi Woolley. They found a spacious site on Burnett Avenue in Maplewood, where the Woolley Coal Company opened its doors to provide coal, ice, and wood to local homeowners.
The Great Depression
Herb and Norman extended credit to families who needed it and received unfailing consumer loyalty in return.
End of World War II
The company more than doubled in size, and the name was changed to the Woolley Fuel Company. It also became one of the first companies to fully computerize to ensure faster, more accurate delivery, service, and billing.
1954
Norm’s son, Norman W. Woolley, Jr. Joined his dad and uncle in the family business.
The 1990s
Norman E. Woolley, the fourth generation, entered the family business.
2000
Woolley Fuel Company installed a state-of-the-art propane refilling station to fill barbecue grill tanks and commercial propane tanks.
2005
The company acquired A.D. Runyon, located in Millington, NJ, and expanded the business into Somerset and Hunterdon County.
2008
Woolley Fuel Company became the first diesel station in New Jersey to carry biodiesel.
2011
Woolley Fuel Company acquired C.T. Williams and Son Plumbing to further expand its offerings to include servicing and installing natural gas.
2015
As the company continued to grow and expand its services, the name was changed again to Woolley Home Solutions.
2019
Woolley Home Solutions pledges that our Bioheat® fuel will be carbon-neutral by 2050.
Present Day
Woolley Home Solutions is the oldest business in Maplewood and continues to offer personal service to its customers.
